A little about me…

I love being around people during one of the happiest times of their lives. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing a couple’s ideas and wishes come together, so that they are truly married in the way that they choose, and knowing that I have helped to create some of that sentiment, is very rewarding. (And on an even more personal note, every ceremony makes me feel like I’m getting married all over again!)

I started off my career as a BBC Broadcast Journalist, so I have always been used to using my voice and speaking in front of people. Whilst living in Mexico, and working for a wedding company, I got to work alongside the celebrants there and ultimately found a new and more enjoyable way of using my voice. As I am not a religious person and religion plays no part in my life, I decided that being a Humanist Celebrant was the best option for me, as I truly believe that couple’s can have unique, meaningful and inspirational wedding ceremonies, without a religious input. For this reason, I am a member of the British Humanist Association and follow their guidelines on Humanist wedding ceremonies.

In all the time and preparation I spend with the couples my ultimate aim is to create a ceremony that reflects the couple I marry and their personalities, beliefs and ideals. And so the best compliment from friends and family that I can get when I’ve married a couple is to hear that ‘the ceremony was so them.’ My communication with couples can be so in depth that usually, by the time the big day has arrived, I feel I am marrying two friends rather than two clients and more often than not I am the one in tears!

To me, this is quite possibly one of the best jobs in the world, and I feel very fortunate that couples’ choose me to be a part of their special day, and so in return, I always do my best to create their perfect ceremony.
